Welcome to Streetball in 4k (working title)

A word from the developer…

Why did I start this project? I had barely played basketball in real life as a kid. My passion for watching basketball didn’t come until much later.. in my twenties. That being said, I’m late to the party. I always wanted to try the NBA 2k games, but my household never had them in our gaming library so that wasn’t possible. Once I started seeing clips online, I became interested. Steph Curry? Before I even knew who or what he was, I was hooked. Clip after clip, the desire to watch and learn more began to grow. I’m now forever a Golden State Warriors fan, and, no, this wasn’t until after their dynasty ended.

As I watched more clips, more highlights, more games, and even movies rooted in real and fictional basketball stories, I still wanted more. NBA 2k? Still not an option. So that’s where Streetball in 4k came from: a desire for more, and nothing but a dream. I have zero illustration history and zero coding knowledge. SB4k is my passion project. I want fun, I want flashy, I want MORE than what the same redundant sports games give us. Let’s make a game together!

What’s in store?

I’m not sure I can give much information on my goals right now, considering this is a brand new project. I intend to work on the bare basics of a 3d environment, player model, and physics. Once I have something tangible, I’ll be recruiting some of my closest friends to play, replay, and break my prototype. That’s step one. Next, we get into the meat of the project: Everything Else. I’ll be researching both streetball and professional basketball, watching videos on YouTube and movies, developing a knowledge of terms, slang, moves, stats, and so on. When it’s time, I’ll try my hand at illustrating one court and some player models. That’s phase two.

What comes after all that, well, that’s when networking and advertisement will become my main focus. There’s no use in developing something that no one other than my group of friends and I can play, when the goal is to have an open-court park-type game where we can meet players of all kinds, with different knowledge levels, different desires, different ideas. The fine tuning comes from everyone’s love of basketball.
